Listen to Vin Scully find out he's a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient
On Wednesday afternoon, the White House announced this year's recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Among the 21 honorees was Vin Scully, a little more than a month after he signed off for the final time after a 67-year career. You'd be hard-pressed to find a single person who'd have qualms with Scully's honor … except for Scully, himself, of course.
When White House press secretary Josh Earnest called to tell Scully the news, the Dodgers' legend responded:
"Are you sure? I'm just an old baseball announcer."
Listen to the whole phone call above. And as for what Earnest told Scully:
"You've had a remarkable impact on the lives of generations of sports fans in this country ... You've got quite a legacy."
