Leonys Martin lost his first battle with the sun, but the home crowd helped him win the war
Leonys Martin's center field bonafides are well-established by now. The man's been known to leap tall outfield walls in a single bound, he throws faster than a speeding bullet. He's Superman, is what we're saying, the only difference being that he makes this look good:
Alas, even the best of us fall victim to the sun sometimes, and Martin became its latest victim during the Mariners' 9-4 win over the Orioles on Sunday -- all he could do was crumple to the ground in horror:
But the home crowd at Safeco Field did not despair. They knew of Martin's exploits with the glove, and had faith that that stellar defender was still in there. And, because the Baseball Gods are not without a sense of humor, Martin would get another chance during the very next at-bat. He steadied himself, used his glove as a visor, and successfully defeated the sun -- as Mariners fans voiced their appreciation:
The rock bards Chumbawamba said it best: Leonys Martin gets knocked down, but he gets up again. You're never going to keep him down.
