The first dinger of Spring Training came from a surprising source: Kyri Washington

Spring Training exhibition games got underway on Wednesday, when the D-backs beat Arizona State University, 8-2. There was plenty of offense, but nary a home run was hit.
Thankfully, there were several more Spring Training games scheduled for Thursday afternoon, so it was only a matter of time before the long offseason's dinger drought came to a close. It's not surprising that the first blow was struck by a Red Sox outfielder -- Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley and Andrew Benintendi all pack plenty of pop, after all.
It was surprising that the man who did it was Kyri Washington:

Washington, a 23-year-old who spent last year with the Class-A Salem Red Sox, entered the game against Northeastern University as a pinch-hitter for Brock Holt in the third inning. He hacked at the first offering from Tyler Robinson and sent it flying over JetBlue Park's version of the Green Monster for a grand slam.
The slam provided the final runs of the day, and the Red Sox won, 15-2. Not a bad way for Washington to make a first impression in 2018.
