Kevin Pillar picked up a double thanks to a turf bounce that eluded two outfielders

Field turf provides a special challenge for outfielders. Wayward bounces happen all the time, and can sometimes turn otherwise routine plays into adventures (and base hits). That scenario played out in the Blue Jays' 6-4 loss to the Rays on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre when Kevin Pillar -- no stranger to the act of robbing would-be hits by the opposition -- was gifted an extra base after his looping fly ball made its way past both right fielder Steven Souza Jr. and center fielder Mallex Smith:
For his good fortune, Pillar collected an RBI, too, as Steve Pearce hustled home to score a run on the play. Not a bad sequence for Toronto, as aided by the playing surface.
