Watch out, NFL: The Colts signed wide receiver Trey Griffey, Ken Griffey Jr.'s son
Ken Griffey Jr. may have been known as "The Kid" for much of his 22-year career, one that earned him a spot in Cooperstown with his 2016 Hall of Fame induction, but it's his actual kid, Trey, who could very well be next in line for his own lengthy pro career ... but in football.
This weekend, the Indianapolis Colts announced that they signed Trey (otherwise known as Ken Griffey III), a wide receiver who played for the Arizona Wildcats the past few years. You may remember Trey as his dad's sidekick for various All-Star Game activities in the early 2000s:
Last year, the Mariners selected Trey in the 24th round of the Major League Draft, a nice homage to Ken Griffey Jr.'s iconic career in Seattle. It was a symbolic gesture more than anything else, given that Trey had firmly chosen football as his future career path instead of following in his dad's (and grandfather's) footsteps on the diamond.
So now, with Trey Griffey a member of the Colts, might the Griffey family name find its way into another major sport for years to come? Let's wait and see.
