The Mets are in first place and no one's more excited than Jon Stewart
Jon Stewart celebrates 1st place Mets on 'Daily Show'
Over the course of his 16-year tenure as the host of "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart has never shied away from embracing and celebrating his Mets fandom. Whether he was interviewing Matt Harvey or relishing Johan Santana's no-hitter or giving people from Philly an earful, Stewart was as gracious and as knowledgeable as they come.
So on Wednesday -- during the penultimate episode of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" -- the host reserved a few precious moments of his limited time remaining in the anchor's seat to celebrate the fact that his New York Metropolitans are currently in sole possession of first place in the NL East. (Skip to the 8:00 mark for the Mets segment.)
During Stewart's 16-year run as host of "The Daily Show," the Mets won the NL East once (2006), played in three National League Championship Series and lost the 2000 World Series to the Yankees. Meanwhile, Stewart befriended Mr. Met, threw out multiple first pitches, trolled future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera and gave the people of Philadelphia another earful, all in the name of his affinity for the Amazins.
The final episode of "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart will air tonight, but we know he'll be devoted to his Mets even long after Trevor Noah hands the show off to his heir.
