Jacob deGrom wows young Mets fan in final 2018 start
Jacob deGrom has had an absolutely unbelievable 2018 season, baffling hitters and racking up strikeouts at an obscene pace -- and he finished his unreal campaign with another masterful outing in the Mets' 3-0 win over the Braves on Wednesday at Citi Field.
What better way to close out a season than with eight shutout frames over a division-winning club and picking up the 1,000th strikeout of your career? That's precisely what deGrom did, and Mets fans basically all looked like this young fan, who was clearly in awe of what he was seeing on the mound:
While the image relates to one specific Mets fan on Wednesday night, it also sums up all of us all season long, watching deGrom do his thing in such an unbelievable way.
When it was all said and done, deGrom finished the game with eight shutout innings, lowering his ERA to a miniscule 1.70. The stats are just intense:
Jacob deGrom's season is officially in the books. There's no longer reason to bring him back on short rest.

His final start:
8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K.
His season:
217 IP, 1.70 ERA, 269 K.
It was, by any stretch, one of the best seasons by a pitcher in modern MLB history.
There just aren't any words, really.
Mickey Callaway on Jacob deGrom: "I've never seen anything like it, so I don't really think I can describe it."
