Enjoy some vintage Ivan 'Pudge' Rodriguez GIFs and moments in celebration of his 46th birthday
Ivan Rodriguez could do things. As a catcher, the man known as "Pudge" did things behind the plate that inspired fear -- and apprehension -- in would-be basestealers.
By the time it was all said and done, Rodriguez's 21-year MLB career ended in a trip to Cooperstown, as he was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in early 2017. Today, he celebrates his 46th birthday.
Though the Enthusiasm Hall of Fame isn't a real thing, he'd also be a shoo-in there ... considering he didn't shy away from expressing himself on the diamond. But first, a vintage Pudge throw to nab a baserunner:
And now, a vintage Pudge emotion:
While he didn't allow many runs to be scored on defense, he thoroughly enjoyed scoring them himself:
Remember when he and the Marlins won the 2003 World Series over the Yankees? Two series earlier, he held on to the ball on a play at the plate to retire the Giants' J.T. Snow -- and wrap up the NL Division Series in four games. Yes, he was feeling it afterward:
His plays behind the plate didn't end with retirement, even after he called it a career in 2012:
14 All-Star selections, 13 Gold Glove Awards, a World Series ring, an AL MVP Award, seven Silver Slugger Awards, the most putouts by a catcher in MLB history and the best caught stealing percentage by any catcher, ever.
Take a bow, Pudge -- and have a happy birthday!
