In his very first MLB plate appearance, Luke Voit was hit by a pitch
Little kids dream about their very first Major League at-bat every day. They dream of dingers or doubles or walk-off grand slams with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Luke Voit, called up by the Cardinals before the team's 8-4 win over the Pirates on Sunday night, was hoping to finally get that opportunity after five seasons in the Minors. As conveyed to MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch pregame, the St. Louis native was more than ready:
Luke Voit knows what he's here to do for #STLCards: "I'm going to go out there with a killer attitude and, you know, hit bombs and doubles."

In the seventh inning, he got the big chance he'd been dreaming about since he first picked up a baseball and bat. And then, on the seventh pitch of the at-bat he ... got hit by a pitch.
Voit took it in stride, smiling all the way down the first-base line as the Busch Stadium crowd gave him a loud ovation.
Not as satisfying as "bombs and doubles," but perhaps just as memorable?
