The Internet gets to help Savannah name its new Coastal Plain League team
Like the New Britain Rock Cats before them, a new baseball team in Savannah has resorted to crowdsourcing to find its new identity. (The Rock Cats famously asked the Internet for help in rebranding, and subsequently became the Hartford Yard Goats.)
When Double-A #Rockies @RockCats move to Hartford in 2016, they'll sport a new name -- the Yard Goats. http://t.co/J5qTuPswWH @GoYardGoats

The still-unnamed Savannah squad will join the Coastal Plain League -- a summer wooden-bat league aimed at helping college ballplayers keep their skills sharp between seasons (Justin Verlander and Seahawks QB Russell Wilson are both CPL alumni). After opening up online voting with the potentially dangerous inclusion of a write-in option, the Savannah franchise narrowed down the options to the following five choices:
- The Savannah Anchors
- The Savannah Seagulls
- The Savannah Ports
- The Savannah Party Animals
- The Savannah Bananas
You can vote for your favorite option here and eagerly await a decision as the team will eliminate some of the current choices next week and again the following week before finally announcing its new identity on Feb. 25.
