At long last, here's the Hartford Yard Goats' new logo
This is the Hartford Yard Goats' new logo
After months of anticipation, this is the logo that will be striking fear into the teams of the Eastern League starting in 2016, as modeled by Cal Ripken Jr.:

Meet the Hartford Yard Goats.
Earlier this year, the Rockies' Double-A affiliate, formerly known as the New Britain Rock Cats, held a fan vote to decide their new mascot. Fans did their thing, and out of potential names like Hound Dogs and Praying Mantis, the Yard Goats won out.

When the name was first announced, though, the team said it was in reference to "railroad slang for an engine that switches a train to get it ready for another locomotive to take over" instead of the barnyard animal.
They still went with the four-legged creature for the logo, though. And, as MiLB.com's Benjamin Hill points out, in the green and blue of former NHL team the Hartford Whalers. We're that much closer to real goats playing baseball.
