Get a hit off Cardinals ace Carlos Martinez? These Dominican Little Leaguers think they can
On Sunday evening, all 16 teams participating in the Little League World Series will file into Classic Bowman Field in Williamsport, PA to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the St. Louis Cardinals in the first ever Little League Classic.
For many of the kids from the Los Bravos de Pontezuela Little League in Santiago, Dominican Republic, this will be their first time getting to watch a Major League Baseball game in person. The Dominican Little Leaguers will also get the chance to interact with all their fellow countrymen on both the Cardinals and the Pirates. While they'll certainly be ecstatic about the opportunity to chat with any big leaguer, it's likely that one Dominican star will be the center of attention: Cardinals right-handed pitcher
Martinez is a large presence in the Dominican Republic and was the ace for this year's World Baseball Classic team. But while "Tsunami" is clearly a tough opponent for any Major League veteran, the kids on the Santiago Little League team are confident they'd have a chance against the two-time All Star.
Check out the video above to see why these 12 and 13-year olds think they can get a base knock against the flamethrowing Martinez.
