Fernando Abad's 62-mph pitch was so unexpected, Adrian Beltre had to take a knee
It's not hard to elicit a unique reaction from Adrian Beltre on the field. The Rangers' veteran third baseman has a knack for entertainment of all types on the diamond. Red Sox reliever Fernando Abad, meanwhile, has a knack for peppering into his outings some extremely off-speed pitches that totally catch hitters off-guard.
Combine the two and you get this delightful scene from the Rangers' 8-2 win over the Red Sox on Wednesday night at Globe Life Park in Arlington:
When Abad dusted off that change-up, all Beltre could do was take a knee. We've seen him do this before plenty of times, but usually when swinging and/or hitting dingers. This was a new one.
As for that pitch, well, we've already run out of "not Abad pitch!" puns, so ... well, that one wasn't Abad offering either.
