King of hustle Evan Longoria needed a double for the cycle, so he ran hard and made it happen
In the first inning of the Rays' 6-4 win over the Astros on Tuesday night, Evan Longoria hit a home run. Two innings later, he tripled. In the seventh, he picked up a single. You see where this is going, right?
That left Longoria a double shy of the cycle when he stepped up to the plate in the ninth and basically willed it to happen after lining a pitch to the left-field corner. Longoria lowered his head and ran as hard as he could to second base, and while he was initially ruled out, replay confirmed that yes, he had gotten his hand in there safely:
When you need a double for history, just RUN.

With that epic display of no-holds-barred hustle, Longoria became the second Rays player to hit for the cycle in franchise history, after Melvin Upton Jr. did the same in October 2009.
Have a night, Evan, and kudos to you for the running.
