New Mets manager Mickey Callaway actually has a Yankee to thank for his first name
On Monday, the Mets announced their hiring of Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway to be the 21st manager in the team's history.
He was formally introduced to the media in a news conference at Citi Field, and was so excited for his new role, you could see the smile on his face from a mile away. But in addition to sharing the joy he felt for his new job, he also talked about how his brother and he wound up with some legendary names.
"My brother is named after Casey Stengel," Callaway said to the media. Stengel managed the Mets for four seasons and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1966.
Callaway himself was named after one of the greatest baseball players of all time: Mickey Mantle.
Baseball is certainly in his family and to be named after someone like that, well … that's brag worthy.
