Thank the Dodgers for naming Vin Scully their announcer 66 years ago today

In history's darkest timeline, the Dodgers don't hire Vin Scully to replace the great Ernie Harwell to be their announcer, letting him instead become the voice of some other sport. Or, even more terrifyingly, he ends up choosing a whole other career path. (Can you imagine: Vin Scully, middle manager, without shivering?) 
There would be no iconic call of Sandy Koufax's perfect game. Or Kirk Gibson's World Series home run. Or even a call to pay attention to adorable babies dancing in Chavez Ravine. 
Best of all was the news coverage, which included the important information that Scully was "even more tawny-haired than Red Barber himself." 

So, to whoever was the Dodgers' hiring manager back in 1950, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
