Catapults threw out the first pitch for S.T.E.A.M. Day at Marlins Park
It was S.T.E.A.M. -- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math -- Day at Marlins Park Thursday, when the Marlins hosted the Dodgers. To celebrate, the pregame festivities turned into the best -- and probably most dangerous -- day of every school year: The Science Fair.
Because it was a science fair, you knew there was going to be a baking soda and vinegar volcano. Unlike the fair in your school's gymnasium, however, there was more room to work with at Marlins Park. The volcano took advantage of that extra space:
But, by far the highlight of the night came during the ceremonial first pitch, when catapults and trebuchets took part in a contest to see which one could throw the best pitch:
Given that these were all way better than any science project I remember seeing in high school, they all earn an A+ in our book.
