Cameron Maybin gave the signal for his own homer off the Tropicana Field catwalk

Now in its 20th season, Tropicana Field is definitely known for its eccentricities and unusual ground rules due to its dome roof. Major League players are well-aware of these quirks, too, and the dome came into play during the Angels' 3-2 win over the Rays on Monday night.
With Tampa Bay leading, 2-1, in the top of the fifth, Cameron Maybin hit a high drive into deep left-center field off Jake Odorizzi. Corey Dickerson and Kevin Kiermaier converged, but it quickly became clear that no one was catching it. The ball caromed off one of the rings of the catwalk and back into the field of play.
This wasn't Maybin's first trip to the Trop, though, and while he had run to third base, he knew what it meant.

Maybin was right -- having hit the correct catwalk, it was a game-tying solo homer.
It's hard to be 100 percent sure about the catwalk, though, and Maybin relayed his thoughts to MLB.com's Maria Guardado. "When I hit it, it looked like it was going to hit the catwalk. Then I thought I had a chance to maybe stay under the catwalk," said Maybin. "Then I was just hoping he was going to call it a homer, because I don't hit very many. ... I was just hoping that they [would] give me the benefit of the doubt."
Home-plate umpire Joe West signaled him home, but Maybin already did the job for him. What a guy.
