Kendrick is about to cruise into third base standing up when fate intervenes to declare that he must arrive by more unconventional means. Was it punishment for Kendrick's hubris that he could get a stand-up triple after hitting only two in each of the last two seasons? Was it an attempt to even the ledger ever so slightly on a dominating half inning? Those answers rest in the mysteries of the universe.
It is most likely the case that Kendrick doesn't have those answers either. But at least he can laugh at the absurdity to which he was subjected.
