The winner of that 59-year-old Bazooka Gum contest got a trip to the World Series, too

Darwin Day is having a good year. You know Darwin -- he's the 70 year old man who discovered an old box of Topps cards from the '50s in his house, entered a 59-year-old Bazooka Gum contest and, despite being just a little late with his entry, won anyway. Bazooka sent him the baseball glove the cards had promised way back when.
That, one might think, would be good enough to make anyone's year. But Day hit it off with Tony Jacobs -- the manager at Topps who orchestrated Day's prize -- and, after talking on the phone when this whole thing first went down, the two finally met in person on Wednesday … at Game 2 of the World Series:

Yes, Jacobs invited Day (wearing the Party at Napoli's sweatshirt, because when in Cleveland) out to Cleveland to spend Game 2 with him at Progressive Field. Now, Day lives in Texas and even does some part-time work at Globe Life Park, so he was probably a bit bummed when the Rangers were knocked out in the ALDS, but still: It's the World Series.

Yes, that's a pretty good year, all thanks to entering an old contest on a lark. I believe that's why the phrase is actually, "best late than never."
