Bask in the pitching majesty of AL Rookie of the Year winner Michael Fulmer

Back on July 31, 2015, the Mets made a blockbuster deal to help get them to the World Series: They acquired Yoenis Céspedes from the Tigers. The timing of the trade, and Cespedes' superstar status, took some of the attention away from the guy the Mets gave up. That guy, Michael Fulmer, just won the Jackie Robinson American League Rookie of the Year Award. His wife was very happy about it:

Here are some reasons why he took home the hardware:
Whiff City
Fulmer went 11-7 with 132 strikeouts during his first year in Detroit. That's a 7.5 K/9 ratio. That looked something like this:

He sat a career-high 11 down during a game against the Rays and then humbly pointed to his defense like they had something to do with it:

Good luck scoring, other teams
If Fulmer had enough innings to qualify for the AL ERA title (he fell just three innings short), he would've come incredibly close -- just .02 points behind second-place finisher and teammate Justin Verlander.and .06 away from winner Aaron Sanchez. It would've been the first time a rookie won an ERA title since former Tiger Mark Fidrych did it 40 years ago. His 1.12 WHIP would've also put him in a tie for sixth. Sorry about that, Michael.

Historically great
Speaking of nobody scoring runs off the righty, Fulmer recorded a 33 1/3-inning scoreless streak between May and June. It was the longest scoreless streak by a Detroit rookie and the longest overall by a Tiger since 1961.

He's also a plumber
Yes, there's no official record-keeping for this (YET), but Fulmer may be the first part-time plumber to win a Rookie of the Year honor. Plumbers everywhere, rejoice!
