Home run slugger Bartolo Colon was listed as a pinch-hitter for the Mets on Sunday
Neil Walker was out of the lineup with a swollen right shin for Sunday's 4-3 win over the Padres, so the Mets were down a capable batter on the day. No team wants to go into a game short a man. Thankfully, they had just the guy in reserve: Colon, Bartolo.
Yes, a day after Colon turned May 7 into a national holiday by hitting his first Major League home run, the Mets listed him as a right-handed pinch-hitter. It has to be reassuring to know you have a big bat like that waiting in the dugout, should you need him -- I mean, he does have a 1.333 slugging percentage against the Padres this year.
Alas, Bartolo never got the opportunity to come to the plate. But just knowing he was available is all that matters. Because Bartolo Colon, pinch-hitter? Be still my beating heart.
