Andrelton Simmons' defensive wizardry happens with or without the baseball
The Angels are enjoying watching shortstop Andrelton Simmons do his thing on defense every day - and by 'do his thing' we mean be consistently amazing with the glove.
During Sunday's 9-4 loss to the Mariners at the Big A, Simmons hoodwinked Leonys Martin with a brilliantly executed fake-out at second base after Ketel Marte flied out to Mike Trout in center. This all worked because Martin, you see, was running on the play:
Earlier in the game, Simmons was part of a 4-6-3 double play off the bat of Seth Smith that involved some serious shift-beating by Andrelton and Angels second baseman Johnny Giavotella:
Simmons' heads-up play(s) on Sunday came on the heels of Trout making an incredible laser throw to pick up an outfield assist on Saturday night -- one that made Trout crack a smile at his own feat.
That's quite a dynamic defensive duo up the middle in Southern California, isn't it?
