Alonso uses Manny Machado's glove to play third base
Before Saturday, Yonder Alonso, typically the Padres first baseman, had only started one game at third base. That was back in 2011 when he was on the Reds. But during his game against the Padres, he was back at the hot corner.
That's fun fact No. 1.
Instead of getting a glove from Will Middlebrooks or another teammate, Alonso got assistance from one of the best third basemen in the league: Gold Glove winner Manny Machado:
Why not, right?
That's fun fact No. 2.
Finally, you might be asking: How did Alonso get his hands on Machado's mitt? Did he steal it? Is it counterfeit? Are Yonder Alonso and Manny Machado actually the same person? Is that Manny Yonder Alonso Machado?
Good guess, but no. Alonso is actually Machado's brother-in-law and they've been known to hang out a lot (particularly at Jay Z concerts with A-Rod).
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is fun fact No. 3 -- the fun-nest fact of all.
