Before they were ALDS opponents, Clay Buchholz and Josh Tomlin were college teammates

Angelina College is a community college north of Houston, with a total enrollment of just under 6,000 students. But when the Indians and Red Sox meet for ALDS Game 3 on Monday at 6 p.m. ET on TBS, it will be arguably the most important campus in baseball: The two starting pitchers, Josh Tomlin and Clay Buchholz, were teammates at AC in 2005.
When the two first met, though, neither of them planned on pitching.
"Clay actually transferred here because he wanted to be a shortstop," AC head coach Jeff Livin told the school's website. "I tried telling him, 'We've got one, and he's probably one of the best I've ever had at that position.'"
That one, as it turns out, was Tomlin -- who still holds the school record for hits in a season. Realizing the depth chart was clogged, Buchholz decided to head back to the mound. It turned out to be a pretty good decision: The righty was an All-American in '05, winning 15 games with a 1.05 ERA and a school-record 129 strikeouts.
Tomlin, however, wants to make one thing clear: He was the better hitter. "It's been a long time ago, [but] I want to say me."
