After setting the Marlins home run record, Giancarlo Stanton is on pace for absurdity

In his first at-bat Monday night, Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton hit his 43rd home run of the season, breaking Gary Sheffield's previous franchise record of 42 dingers. While that's impressive in its own right, Stanton's record-breaker marked the fifth straight game in which he has homered. He has gone yard in all but two of his last 11 games played with 10 total home runs in that span.

According to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro, Stanton is also the first Marlin to ever homer in five straight games. If he were to keep up that pace for a full season (which even for Stanton, is pretty much impossible), he would shatter not only franchise records, but single-season records with 162 home runs. Over his last 34 games, he's on a 104-home run pace over a full season. Alas, if you're not a fan of short sample sizes and prefer actual predictions, he's on pace for around 60. Either way, as long as this keeps up, Stanton's at-bats will be appointment viewing.
With 10 August dingers, Stanton has the same number of homers this month as the Rays and one more than the Pirates. In both stature and output, Stanton is a team unto himself.
