As the Mets will tell you, calling America's largest city home has its advantages. One of them? Inspiration is never far away.
Citi Field, which opened in 2009 and played host to its first World Series in 2015, draws on New York City's baseball legacy -- honoring Jackie Robinson and the famed Ebbets Field in its design while carrying over other features from the Mets' time in Shea Stadium, like the distinctive orange foul poles.
Another advantage of its New York address? Well, the restaurant selection, of course. Citi Field boasts one of the deepest rosters of ballpark food in the Major Leagues. And why go to a restaurant when you can hop on the 7 train and catch a baseball game while you eat?
- The Home Run Apple: This notable Shea Stadium holdover got an upgrade, but remains a staple of the Mets game day experience. For each blast hit by the home team, a big apple -- yes, pun intended -- bursts out of the center field batters' eye.
- Shake Shack: The renowned burgers, fries and shakes of this New York original made their way from Madison Square Park to Citi Field's outfield concourse when the stadium opened, and have been delighting hungry fans ever since.
