21 years ago, Jim Abbott threw a no-hitter

Happy anniversary to Jim Abbott's no-hitter

Jim Abbott, born with one hand, has accomplished quite a bit during his 46 years. The Flint native was part of two Big Ten Championships at the University of Michigan, pitched the U.S. to an unofficial Gold Medal during the 1988 Summer Olympics and won 88 games during a 10-year big league career. The lefty also finished third in the Cy Young vote in 1991 -- a season in which he compiled 18 wins and a 2.89 ERA.

But perhaps his greatest moment (besides starring in an episode of "Boy Meets World") was pitching a no-hitter on September 4, 1993. The Yankees starter achieved the feat against the Indians -- yes, the Indians that featured Kenny Lofton, Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez and Jim Thome. There have been 51 no-no's since Abbott's, but maybe none sweeter:
