Looking back on the Tigers' acquisition of a young slugger named Miguel Cabrera in 2007

You know how sometimes when you look back on something, it makes all the sense in the world?
On June 20, 2003, a 20-year-old prospect named Miguel Cabrera collected his first career hit for the then-Florida Marlins. It was a walk-off homer in the 11th inning:

After such a dramatic start to a career, is it any wonder Cabrera went on to be one of the most feared hitters in the game? 
It was 10 years ago today that Cabrera was traded from the Marlins to the Detroit Tigers (along with with Dontrelle Willis, in exchange for Dallas Trahern, Burke Badenhop, Frankie De La Cruz, Cameron Maybin, a young Andrew Miller and Mike Rabelo) ... and since that day, all he's done is hit.

Since joining the Tigers and moving to first base before the 2008 season, Cabrera's made seven All-Star teams, won the Triple Crown in 2012 (the first player to do so since 1967), won consecutive AL MVP Awards and generally been the type of hitter pitchers would much prefer to avoid. 
He's been a big reason the Tigers have reached the postseason five times since he's been there -- including winning the AL pennant in 2012.
Safe to say this trade has worked out pretty well for Detroit.
