Special Assistant to the General Manager
Russ Bove (pronounced boe-vay) joined the Astros in 2023 as a special assistant to the general manager.
Bove brings close to 40 years of experience in professional scouting to the Astros. His current role will include assisting with the amateur draft as well as minor league player evaluation.
Prior to joining the Astros, Bove had served as a special assignment scout for the Toronto Blue Jays since 2010, during which time he worked alongside current Astros General Manager Dana Brown. While in Toronto, Bove was a part of the signing of several current Major League players, including Bo Bichette, Marcus Stroman and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. During his stint in Toronto, Bove was named East Coast Scout of the Year at the Winter Meetings in December of 2017.
Bove’s career in scouting began in 1983 with the Major League Scouting Bureau. In 1992, he was hired by the Brewers organization where he would first serve as an area scout before being promoted to East Coast Supervisor. In 2004, he worked as an area scout for the Montreal Expos for one season before being hired by the New York Mets as amateur scouting director. He would remain with the Mets until 2011, at which time he would join the Blue Jays.
A native of Queens, NY, Bove received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in business from St. John’s University. While in college, he was the Team MVP of the St. John’s baseball team in 1971 was twice named as a District II All-American.
