Senior Director, Research and Development
JJ Ruby, who joined the Houston Astros full-time in October 2022, is currently the Senior Director of Research and Development. In this role, JJ oversees the direction of R&D activities and helps lead the technical vision for the organization, benefiting from excellent collaboration across baseball operations and the Astros more broadly.
Prior to joining the Astros, JJ was a Lawrence Postdoctoral Fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory while also working as a consultant within the R&D department of the Astros. JJ started full-time with the Astros in the role of Lead Innovator, working on high leverage projects across baseball operations.
JJ graduated with a degree in Astrophysics from Villanova University and a PhD in Physics from the University of Rochester, where he also currently holds an appoint as a visiting assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering. JJ currently resides in Houston with his wife, Elizabeth.
