Assistant Athletic Trainer
Eric Velazquez joined the Astros organization in 2022 as Major League assistant athletic trainer.
Velazquez previously served as the athletic training coordinator for the Boston Red Sox from 2019-2021. Prior to that, he worked in the Boston system as an affiliate athletic trainer for the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox for two seasons (2017-18) and for Double A Portland for one season (2016).
Velazquez began his career in baseball in 2010 with the New York Mets organization, working at their Dominican Republic Academy. He then was named as their Latin America coordinator in 2011. Over the next few seasons, he served as athletic trainer for Short-A Brooklyn (2012-2013) and Single-A Savannah (2014-2015).
Additionally, Velazquez has worked as an athletic trainer for the Dominican Winter League (2011), Arizona Fall League (2012), Venezuelan Winter League (2014-15) and the World Baseball Classic (2017).
He received his bachelor’s degree in exercise biology from the University of California, Davis, and his master’s in athletic training from Stephen F. Austin University.
Originally from Los Angeles, CA, Velazquez now resides in Pflugerville, TX, with his wife and two daughters.
