Astros announce 2025 MLB coaching staff
HOUSTON, TX — The Astros have announced the 2025 Major League coaching staff, which will include one change from last year's staff.
Tony Perezchica has been hired as third base and infield coach/run prevention coordinator. Gary Pettis, whose contract was not renewed, had served as the Astros third base coach since 2015.
Perezchica, who most recently had been the third base coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2017-24, has several years of experience as a Major League coach and player and as a minor league manager and coach. Prior to joining the D-backs Major League staff, he spent several seasons in their organization as a minor league manager, field coordinator and infield coordinator from 2003-16. Additionally, Perezchica, who is a native of Mexicali, Mexico, spent parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues as an infielder with San Francisco (1988, 1990-91) and Cleveland (1991-92).
The rest of the Astros MLB coaching staff from 2024 will remain intact for next season with one adjustment. Jason Bell, who served as quality assurance coach last season, will now be the Major League field coordinator/outfield coach. The 2025 season will be Bell's second with the Major League staff and his 9th overall in the Astros organization.
Omar López returns for his second year as bench coach and for his sixth season as part of the Astros Major League staff (28th overall in the organization). Dave Clark will also return for his second season as first base coach. In 2024, Clark rejoined the Astros for his second stint on the Major League staff after previously serving as both a third base (2009-12) and first base coach (2013) on the Astros staff. Clark also served as a minor league manager in the Astros system for four seasons (2005-08).
Hitting coach Alex Cintrón is now the longest-tenured coach on the Astros MLB staff as the 2025 season will be his ninth on the staff and seventh as hitting coach. Pitching coach Josh Miller and hitting coach Troy Snitker will each be in their seventh season on the Major League staff in 2025. Miller is entering his 19th season with the Astros as a minor league pitcher, coach and pitching coordinator, while Snitker has been with the organization since 2016, serving as a minor league hitting coordinator and coach before joining the Major League staff in 2019.
Major League coach Michael Collins returns for his sixth season as part of the Astros Major League staff and his eighth with the Astros overall while pitching coach Bill Murphy will enter his fifth season on the Major League staff. Prior to joining the Major League staff in 2021, Murphy served as a minor league pitching coordinator and coach in the Astros system from 2016-20. Tommy Kawamura, who joined the Major League staff as the game planning coach in 2023, returns for his third season. Kawamura has been with the Astros organization since 2016, serving as a minor league coach and as an advance scouting manager prior to his current role.
