HOUSTON -- Astros outfielder Josh Reddick was out of the starting lineup for the second consecutive game Saturday against the Indians while dealing with a skin infection above his left knee. Reddick said the swelling had subsided, thanks to antibiotics, and was hopeful to return to the lineup Sunday.
Reddick pinch-hit in the ninth inning of Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Indians and flied out to center field.
"It kind of hurts to walk around and make it move," Reddick said. "I probably could play through it. The thing right now is keeping it safe and [preventing] a further infection and causing something that will get out of hand. I think we're going to take a day or two here and take the time to let the meds kick in, let the antibiotics do their work, and see where we're at."
Reddick isn't sure how he got the infection, saying a spider bite was a possibility.
"It looks like one and that's what my initial thought was," he said. "At the same time, I thought it was an ingrown hair, so I kind of had to get in there and pick it out and here we are. Maybe my doing that had something to do with that. Right now, I have no idea what caused it. When we got home on the off-day [Thursday] it just started swelling up and yesterday it was really painful."
Reddick is hitting .302 (19-for-63) in 20 home games this season with three homers, eight RBIs and a .384 OBP.
