HOUSTON -- Josh Reddick and Brian McCann, the Astros' pair of veteran left-handed bats currently on the 10-day disabled list, will need more time.
Reddick did not travel with the Astros during their seven-game road trip to Cleveland and New York and remained in Houston as an infection near his left knee heals. Reddick ramped up his workload Wednesday at Minute Maid Park, and it continued Thursday, when Reddick took some early batting practice before the Astros' series opener against the Red Sox.
"We hope that that continues," Astros manager AJ Hinch said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow. We'll know more information as every day comes. He's likely eliminated from this series as we get him back ramped up to baseball activities ... I like where he's at. I like that he's starting to do some baseball things and be a baseball player again. It sounds like he's feeling better."
Reddick was placed on the DL on May 23, and Hinch is hoping he can return for either the two-game series against the Mariners, which begins Tuesday, or the four-game series vs. the Rangers in Arlington, which starts Thursday.
Hinch said the 31-year-old Reddick will likely be sent to get some at-bats in a rehab assignment with one of the club's affiliates, but the Astros are unsure of the specifics.
On the other hand, McCann has been shut down from activity for the time being.
McCann, who hit the DL on Tuesday, said he had his right knee drained and received a cortisone shot to relieve the soreness following his premature return flight to Houston during the team's series against the Yankees in New York.

"I'm going to take a couple of days and do nothing," McCann said Thursday. "Just get treatment and hopefully after the shots it will calm down."
McCann has caught 37 games this season and was hitting .219 with 25 hits in 114 at-bats before being sidelined by the same knee soreness he's dealt with in the past, including last August. Given the knee's history, the Astros are unable to plot a return date for McCann.
"Until we get to 10 days, I have no idea," Hinch said. "I've stopped trying to predict. ... It'll be day to day until his time expires. At that point, we'll make a decision based on the activity level and what's he's doing."
"I'm getting a little older," McCann said. "So yeah, I've been dealing with it for a little bit now. ... Obviously, you never want to go on the DL and never want to take time off. You know, it's a long season and I have to make sure this thing's right down the stretch."
