CHICAGO -- Astros right-hander Gerrit Cole, who was scratched from his scheduled start while warming up before Game 2 of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the White Sox with right hamstring discomfort, said after Wednesday's 13-9 loss to the White Sox that he got some good news on his injury.

“It’s not super serious, so we’ll just take it day by day right now and kind of see how it responds to some treatment and some rest and get back out there as soon as we can,” Cole said.

The right-hander said he was finishing his delivery on the first handful of warmup pitches in the bullpen Tuesday night and felt some discomfort.

“I really wasn’t 100 percent ready to go at that point and wasn’t able to ramp it up,” he said. “I was easing into it and it kept grabbing me.”

It doesn’t appear Cole will pitch during the rest of the road trip, which shifts to Oakland on Thursday for a four-game series against the A’s. The Astros have named three of their four starters for the Oakland series with the exception of Saturday’s game, which is TBA. It is expected to be Rogelio Armenteros or Framber Valdez.

Cole, the American League Pitcher of the Month for June and July, leads the Major Leagues with 226 strikeouts and was 8-0 with a 1.77 ERA with 17 walks and 86 strikeouts in his last 10 starts.

Worth noting
• Right-handed reliever Cy Sneed was called up from Triple-A Round Rock prior to Wednesday’s game to take the roster spot of right-hander Joe Biagini, who was optioned after throwing 46 pitches in three innings in Game 2 on Tuesday. Sneed has appeared in three games with the Astros this year, allowing five runs and 13 hits while striking out 12 batters in 12 innings.

• With Zack Greinke having to start Game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader -- a makeup game from Monday that Greinke was scheduled to start -- the Astros haven’t announced who will pitch on Saturday in Oakland in what would have been Greinke’s start had he stayed on normal rest. The likely choices are right-hander Rogelio Armenteros and lefty Framber Valdez, both of whom are in Triple-A.

• Right-hander Brad Peacock, who rejoined the team Tuesday in Chicago after making four rehab outings at Round Rock, is scheduled to continue his rehab with a relief outing on Thursday for the Express. Hinch said on Tuesday that the Astros decided he needed a couple more rehab outings.

• Pitching coach Brent Strom is expected to rejoin the team during next week’s homestand. Strom has been away from the club for a week while he recovers from gastrointestinal surgery.
