HOUSTON -- Tigers starting pitchers Mike Fiers and Francisco Liriano received 2017 World Series rings for their contributions to the Astros' championship last season prior to Saturday's game at Minute Maid Park.
Fiers led the Astros in innings pitched in 2017, with 153 1/3 in 28 starts (29 games), but he did not pitch in the postseason. Liriano, whom the Astros acquired from the Blue Jays at the non-waiver Trade Deadline as a reliever last July, appeared in five postseason games last fall.
"It's an unbelievable moment," Liriano said before the event. "I'm very happy and looking forward to getting it today. Ready to see it."
Fiers started in Friday's 3-0 series-opening loss to the Astros. An Astros pitcher for parts of 2015-17 before becoming a free agent in December and signing with Detroit, Fiers surrendered three runs on nine hits to his former club over six innings.

After punctuating his short Astros career with a ring Saturday, Liriano is scheduled to complete this weekend's three-game series at Houston with his 15th start of this season Sunday at Minute Maid.
"I'm sure they both are very anxious," said Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire. "It's a big deal. It's a big deal when you get to that World Series and win it. I was fortunate enough to do it once early in Minnesota as a coach. These guys have been waiting for this. It's an exciting thing. They were a part of a really special team. They're pretty fired up."
