Astros to hold open tryout at Corpus Christi's Whataburger Field

Set for Thursday, June 26; Same-Day Registration

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros will conduct an open tryout on Thursday, June 26, at Whataburger Field, home of the Double A Corpus Christi Hooks.

Registration for the tryout, administered by Astros South Texas Area Scout Noel Gonzales-Luna, runs from 8-8:45 a.m. that morning on the ballpark's main concourse at Section 119. Tryouts begin promptly at 9 a.m.

Position players will be tested in running and throwing, and if qualified on those abilities, will be held over to hit on the field. Pitchers will throw from bullpen mounds. After further evaluation, additional hitting and bullpen sessions may be undertaken.

All participants must fill out and sign a waiver provided by the Astros. Athletes under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign as well. There is no age restriction, but age recommendation is 17-23.

Players should dress in baseball pants and bring spikes, gloves and bats. Catchers are responsible for their own gear.

The Astros are not responsible for any violations of a player's amateur status. Any player with remaining eligibility for high school or college baseball should take the necessary steps to protect their amateur status.

There is no fee to participate.

"This will be a good opportunity for some of the area's most talented amateurs to be seen by a pro scout," said Hooks Vice President/General Manager Michael Wood. "We've never had an event like this before in the 10 years of Hooks Baseball; it's another example of how the Hooks, Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend benefit from our partnership with the Astros."
