ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired RHP Ian Anderson from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for LHP José Suarez.
Anderson, 26, has a 22-13 career Major League record with a 3.97 ERA (272.1 IP – 120 ER) and 262 strikeouts across parts of three seasons with the Braves. In 2024, he totaled 15 minor league starts in the Atlanta organization, going 3-2 with a 3.44 ERA (68 IP – 26 ER) and 68 strikeouts.
A native of Rexford, NY, Anderson was originally selected by the Braves in the first round (third overall) in the 2016 Draft out of Shenendehowa HS (Clifton Park, NY). He finished tied for seventh in 2020 N.L. Rookie of the Year voting and was fifth in 2021 N.L. Rookie of the Year voting. Anderson has also made eight Postseason starts for the Braves, going 4-0 with a 1.26 ERA (35.2 IP – 5 ER) and 40 strikeouts. He was the winning pitcher in Game 3 of the 2021 World Series vs. Houston, after working 5.0 no-hit innings
Suarez, 27, pitched six Major League seasons for the Angels and compiled a 20-29 career record with one save, a 5.47 ERA (376.2 IP – 229 ER) and 346 strikeouts across 99 games (61 starts). He was originally signed by the Angels as an international free agent on July 3, 2014.
