ANAHEIM – The Angels added to their infield depth on Monday, acquiring Tyler Wade from the Yankees in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations.

Wade, who turns 27 on Tuesday, was designated for assignment by New York on Friday. He’s a career .212/.298/.307 hitter in 264 games in parts of five seasons with the Yankees.

Wade played in a career-high 103 games in 2021, hitting .268/.354/.323 with five RBIs and 17 stolen bases. He can play multiple positions, as he’s seen action at second base, shortstop, third base and all three outfield spots. Wade, though, is out of Minor League options so he must stay on the Major League roster, or else be exposed to waivers.

The Angels designated infielder Kean Wong for assignment to make room for Wade. Wong played in 32 games last season, hitting .167/.194/.233. When a player is DFA’d, they are removed from the 40-man roster and within seven days of the transaction, the player must either be traded, released or placed on irrevocable waivers.
