ANAHEIM -- The Angels agreed to terms with first-round pick Reid Detmers, the team announced on Sunday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but MLB.com's Jim Callis reported that it included a $4,670,000 signing bonus.

Detmers, the No. 10 overall selection in the 2020 Draft, is also expected to be part of the Angels’ 60-man player pool, though the club had yet to make any official announcement after Sunday’s 1 p.m. PT deadline to set the roster. His selection carried a slot value of $4,739,900, so he agreed for just under slot.

He’s the second player to agree to terms with the Angels, as fifth-rounder Adam Seminaris from Long Beach State agreed on an under-slot deal worth $140,000 on June 16. The Angels have yet to agree to terms with third-rounder David Calabrese or fourth-rounder Werner Blakely. The Angels saved roughly $250,000 by signing Seminaris for an under-slot deal and could use that to sign Calabrese or Blakely, who are both high schoolers. Calabrese is committed to Arkansas while Blakely is committed to Auburn.

Detmers, a star left-hander at the University of Louisville, was considered the most polished lefty in the Draft and is close to being Major League ready. He has a fastball that can touch the mid-90s along with a plus-curveball and a changeup.

Detmers, ranked as the No. 8 prospect in this year’s Draft class by MLB Pipeline, dominated at the collegiate level, as he broke a school record with 167 strikeouts as a sophomore and tied the program's record with 13 wins while leading the Cardinals to the 2019 College World Series.

The 20-year-old also was the best starter for Team USA’s Collegiate National Team, going 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in three starts. The coronavirus pandemic cut his junior season short, but he ranked second in Division I in strikeouts with 48 in just 22 innings while going 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA. In his three years at Louisville, he went 20-6 with a 3.20 ERA and 284 strikeouts, 73 walks and 21 homers allowed in 191 innings.
