Trout with club on trip, working toward return
NEW YORK -- Center fielder Mike Trout is with the Angels on their current road trip, which began with a makeup game against the Yankees on Monday. Manager Joe Maddon still has hope that Trout will be back on the playing field at some point this season. Trout hasn’t played in a game since May 17 because of a right calf strain.
Maddon said that Trout is “very active” as far as trying to get back on the field, as the nine-time All-Star has been running the bases and working on changing direction. Maddon also said that Trout has taken his share of batting practice.
“He is definitely motivated in that direction,” Maddon said about a possible Trout return. “I can’t give you a specific time frame on it, but he is working. Conversationally, he is upbeat. Somedays he feels better than [other days]. We are trying to get him to the point where that calf feels normal on a consistent basis.”
