Source: Maddon to interview for Angels job

October 6th, 2019

Many think former Cubs manager Joe Maddon will end up with the Angels, and he will meet with the Halos on Monday to discuss their managerial vacancy, a source told MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi on Sunday. MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal was the first to report on an interview this week. Maddon spent more than three decades with that organization as a player, Minor League manager and member of Los Angeles' coaching staff. The Angels haven't commented.

The Cubs and Maddon parted ways at the end of the 2019 season. He led Chicago to a World Series title in 2016, ending a 108-year championship drought, and managed the club to a record of 471-339 (.581 winning percentage) and four postseason appearances before the Cubs failed to reach the playoffs this year.

The Padres, who have their own managerial vacancy, are "doing background work" on Maddon, according to MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman.

Other clubs besides the Padres and Angels have reached out to Maddon in recent days as well, MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi reports.
