Where Dodgers could turn after Kim signing, Lux trade

January 6th, 2025

MLB.com is keeping track of all the latest free-agent and trade rumors involving the Dodgers right here.

Jan. 6: What's Dodgers' next move after Kim signing, Lux trade?
The Dodgers' signing of KBO star Hyeseong Kim on Friday made for a crowded infield in L.A. But they alleviated that infield logjam on Monday by dealing Gavin Lux to the Reds.

So what area might the Dodgers target next? It's probably pitching.

The Dodgers' top priority will likely now become right-handed starting pitcher Roki Sasaki, who is expected to make a decision between Jan. 15-23 regarding which MLB team he will join. The Dodgers are reportedly one of the clubs to meet with the Japanese phenom, and general manager Brandon Gomes said Friday that he hopes Los Angeles will be granted a second meeting.

Gomes also said that the Dodgers would like to add another reliever, which could potentially be someone like left-handed flamethrower Tanner Scott, whom they've been previously linked to, as The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya notes (subscription required).

Dec. 28: Dodgers have met with Sasaki (sources)
The Dodgers are the sixth known team to have had an in-person meeting with Sasaki, multiple sources told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The other clubs who have reportedly met with the 23-year-old phenom are the Mets, Yankees, Cubs, Rangers and Giants.

The Dodgers and Padres are viewed as the favorites to land Sasaki, though given how relatively affordable he will be, there will likely be many other teams making a play for him. Sasaki's agent Joel Wolfe said during the Winter Meetings that Sasaki may prefer a mid-to-small-market club, ostensibly opening up the bidding to all 30 teams. More >

Dec. 9: Dodgers not done bolstering bullpen after re-signing Treinen (report)
Veteran reliever Blake Treinen is back with the Dodgers on a two-year, $22 million deal, but that doesn't mean the defending World Series champions are done adding to their bullpen. According to a report from The Athletic (subscription required), the club is "looking at the top of [the reliever] market," including free-agent left-hander Tanner Scott.

Scott, 30, has been one of the best relievers in the game the past two seasons, posting a 2.04 ERA with a 31.3% strikeout rate between the Marlins and Padres, earning his first All-Star selection in 2024.
