Twins select two on first day of Draft
Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced tonight that they have selected outfielder Trevor Larnach from Oregon State University with the 20th overall selection in the first round of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. In addition, the Twins also selected catcher Ryan Jeffers from UNC Wilmington with the 59th overall pick in the second round.

Larnach (LAR-nick), 21, is currently playing his junior season at Oregon State University. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder has hit .327 (70-for-214) with 13 doubles, 17 home runs and 65 RBI in 58 games for the Beavers this season. In three seasons at OSU has combined to hit .298 (138-for-463) with 30 doubles, 20 home runs and 116 RBI in 146 games. The Beavers' cleanup hitter hit .400 (4-for-10) and was named to the Corvallis All-Regional Team in 2018. The Beavers move on to play in the Super Regionals against the University of Minnesota this weekend. In 2017 was named an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention and named to the Corvallis Regional All-Tournament Team. A graduate of College Park HS in Pleasant Hill, CA, Larnach was named a First-Team All-State and All-League as a junior and senior and was rated No. 328 nationally among high school prospects by Perfect Game. Larnach was originally selected by the Padres in the 40th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign.

Jeffers, 21, hit .327 (69-for-211) with 22 doubles, 16 home runs and 59 RBI in 60 games for UNC Wilmington as a junior in 2018. In three seasons with the Seahawks he hit .327 (138-for-422) with 44 doubles, 27 home runs and 96 RBI in 125 games. Jeffers was named to the Greenville All-Regional team in 2018. As a sophomore, he played in 52 of UNCW's 53 games and saw time in the outfield and as designated hitter in addition to catcher. In 2017, was named First-Team All-CAA, ABCA All-East First-Team and NCCSIA First-Team All-State. A graduate of Sanderson HS in Raleigh, NC, Jeffers was a three-time All-Conference selection and hit .398 with two home runs and 18 RBI as a senior.
