Tigers agree to 2019 contract with Shane Greene
DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with righthanded pitcher Shane Greene, thus avoiding arbitration.
Greene, 30, appeared in 66 games last season and went 4-6 with 32 saves, a 5.12 ERA (63.1IP/36ER) and 65 strikeouts. He ranked tied for fourth in the American League with 32 saves, while he was ninth with an 84.2 save percentage. Greene became the eighth Tigers pitcher (14th instance overall) to record 30-or-more saves in a season, and the first since Francisco Rodríguez had 44 saves in 2016.
In five seasons at the Major League level, Greene has a 22-25 record with 43 saves, a 4.89 ERA (353.2IP/192ER) and 328 strikeouts in 220 appearances, including 33 starts.
