Texas Rangers Scout Team wins Five Tool Tournament

The Texas Rangers Youth Academy’s 18U baseball Scout Team had a successful weekend competing in the Five Tool Texas DFW Kickoff Tournament, where they finished with a perfect 6-0 record and captured the championship title.

The offense was seemingly unstoppable as the team put up double digits in multiple games. Notable performances over the six games played included two-way player Jason Flores, who went 5-for-9 at the plate with four home runs, including a grand slam, while also working eight walks. Joining Flores as offensive standouts were Nikolas Smith, who was 6-for-12 with three doubles and two walks; Saul Vela, who went 8- for-16 at the plate with a home run, two doubles and four walks; and Romel Garcia, who was 4-for-9 with a home run, two doubles and seven walks.

The Rangers’ pitchers were just as dominant. Jacob Ayala threw a complete game shutout in the championship game and struck out six opposing batters. Also collecting wins during the tournament were Victor Camarillo, who threw a shutout of his own with five strikeouts, along with Vicente Rosas and Major Spence, who totaled seven strikeouts in four innings and five strikeouts in five innings, respectively.

The Rangers 15U baseball and 18U softball teams also finished with winning records during their Memorial Day Weekend tournaments.

The 18U softball team took third place in the USSSA DFW Memorial Championship with a 5-3 record. The team finished with the third-fewest runs allowed and was in the top five for runs scored among the 12 competing teams. Pitcher Gio Frias was a key player with two home runs over the weekend.

The Academy’s 15U baseball team had several standout performances while competing in the Five Tool Texas UT Dallas Summer Kickoff Tournament and ended the weekend with a 2-0-1 record.

A combined 20 runs were scored by the team throughout the tournament, with notable performances from Mark Ramos, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple. He also pitched four innings, allowed only two hits and tallied seven strikeouts in the Game 1 victory.

In the 2-2 draw, Braylon Hubbard went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI, and during game three’s 12-5 win, both Josh White and Mason Berry plated runs, finishing 2-for-3 and 2-for-2, respectively.
