Academy Notebook: The MLB RBI Southwest Regional Tournament
Rangers RBI, Astros RBI, RBI Austin and NOLA YA RBI Set to Compete for the 2021 Southwest Regional Championship
Tomorrow, on Friday, July 9, the MLB RBI Southwest Regional Tournament will officially begin at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at the Mercy Street Sports Complex, presented by Toyota.
As they wrap up one last day of practice before the big show, Rangers RBI, Astros RBI, RBI Austin and NOLA YA RBI all have their sights set on the Southwest Regional Championship. On Friday and Saturday, beginning at 8:30 a.m., teams from each division will participate in pool play for a chance to advance to the championship games on Sunday.
The 15U baseball, 18U baseball and 18U softball division champions will advance to the MLB RBI Baseball and Softball World Series at the Jackie Robinson Sports Complex in Vero Beach, Florida, from Aug. 2-13.
Some of the Academy’s most talented athletes to ever wear a Rangers RBI uniform will be working together this weekend to win it all on their home turf.
In addition to the nine existing Rangers RBI coaches, the Rangers RBI 18U Baseball coaching staff has expanded to include former major league pitcher and Texas Rangers alumni Darren Oliver.
The entire Texas Rangers RBI coaching staff has laid the foundation for success, focusing on team chemistry, dedication and mental toughness. Now, all that's left— 45 Rangers RBI All-Stars prove what the Texas Rangers Youth Academy is all about.
Tournament Schedule
Pool Play for all divisions will take place on Friday and Saturday morning. Upon completion of Pool Play, the No. 1 Seed will receive a bye to the Championship Game, and the No. 2 seed will face the No. 3 seed to determine who plays in the Championship Game.
