Rescheduled Jr. Home Run Derby coming to Academy on Saturday

Arlington, TX - After a one-week delay, the local round of the Major League Baseball Jr. Home Run Derby is coming to the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex Presented by Toyota tomorrow, Saturday, April 28.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, April 21, the event was postponed due to rain.
Jr. Home Run Derby (Jr.HRD) is a free national program for boys and girls 14 years old and younger, providing players from across the country an opportunity to participate in an exciting home run hitting contest. The program includes three levels of competition - top performers from the Local level advance to the Regional level and ultimately, the National Finals prior to the MLB Home Run Derby during All-Star Week.
Competition will take place on Kershaw's Challenge Field and Josh "Hambone" Hamilton Field from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In the event of the other two fields being too wet due to rain, activities will relocate to Oates Field, presented by Papa John's.
On Deck at the Academy
With playoff baseball on the horizon, Pinkston will host Kemp tonight, Friday, April 27.
On Monday, April 30, Hillcrest and Oakridge will take the field at the Academy to get a feel for the conditions prior to possible playoff games at the facility.
Pinkston and Sunset High School softball teams, who played their regular season home games at the Academy, both made the playoffs. But no playoff softball games will be hosted at the facility.
Pinkston High School baseball and softball teams practice and play all their home games at the Academy. Additionally, the facility supports scheduling for Sunset High School baseball games and Edison Middle School softball contests. Entrance is free to all games.
On the Schedule
The Academy will host local sectional, and regional rounds of the Scotts Major League Baseball Pitch Hit & Run, the official skills competition of MLB.
Participants in the free event compete in either baseball or softball and have the opportunity to advance through four levels of competition including Locals, Sectionals, Team Championships and the National Finals during MLB All-Star Week.
MLB Team Championships are held at all 30 MLB ballparks during the month of June. Finalists from that round earn a trip to MLB All-Star Week.
In Full Swing

Through nine weeks of spring programming, 897 athletes, ages 9 through 18, have worked on hitting, fielding, throwing, and defensive strategies with members of the Academy coaching staff.
The 10-week baseball and softball program lasts until May 10 and is held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There is no cost to participate in the spring programming, and registration is still available at https://texasrangersya.leagueapps.com.
Monday and Wednesday activities are held on the South Side of the complex, while Thursday is on the North Side. Programming occurs rain or shine, with all activities relocating to the indoor space in the event of weather issues.
