Twins place Bailey Ober on 10-day injured list

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Bailey Ober on the 10-day Injured List (retroactive to April 29) with a right groin strain.

Ober departed Thursday’s game vs. Detroit in the top of the fourth inning with the injury. He has made four starts for the Twins this season, going 1-1 with a 2.75 ERA (19.2 IP, 6 ER), five walks, 16 strikeouts, a .250 opponent batting average and a 1.22 WHIP.

To replace Ober on the 28-man roster, the Twins have recalled right-handed pitcher Cole Sands from Triple-A St. Paul. Sands has made four appearances (3 starts) for the Saints this season, going 0-3 with a 7.82 ERA (12.2 IP, 11 ER), four walks, 12 strikeouts, a .286 opponent batting average and a 1.42 WHIP. The 24-year-old was selected by Minnesota in the fifth round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Florida State University and is currently ranked as the 17th-best prospect in the organization, per MLB.com. Sands will wear uniform number 77 and is looking to make his major league debut.
